Quite late indeed to write about a man who changed the world with his creations. Steve Paul Jobs is a name that goes down in the history books for what he created and the vision he left for the rest of us! When i came across details of his personal life on how he had to face hardships of walking 7Km to get free meals in Hare Krishna temple, sleeping in friends homes and selling coke bottle for cash. It makes me think he deserved what he achieved for what he endured in life.
Jobs along with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Mike Markkula and others—designed, developed, and marketed one of the first commercially successful lines of personal computers, the Apple II series. In the 1980s, Jobs was among the first to see the commercial potential ofXerox PARC’s mouse-driven graphical user interface, which led to the creation of the Macintosh. He made the computer move away from laboratories and put them in homes of common people. His vision of GUI made use of computer simpler affair.
After enduring a power struggle in the board, his resignation would have been termed as the last we saw of him form most critics. But to this day his story of rise to the top again by establishing NeXT Computer and Pixar (bought by him, previously called The Graphics Group). NeXT was is some way not a great success but Pixar created brilliant animation movies that had great box office success. To name a few A Bug’s Life (1998); Toy Story 2 (1999); Monsters, Inc. (2001); Finding Nemo(2003); The Incredibles (2004); Cars (2006); Ratatouille (2007); WALL-E (2008); Up (2009); and Toy Story 3 (2010). Disney did buy Pixar but Steve was given a 7% stake and was part of the board.
Upon his return to Apple, he turned their fortune around with market dominating products like ipod, iphone and ipad. He turned valuation of $3 per share company to a $300, proving why he is just so awesome. I still remember the first time used a ipod i was amazed as how awesome the UI was and the scroll wheel was amazing experience which to this date i still remember. The iphone was one step ahead paving a boom of the touch phone is the market.
” 3 Apples changed the world
1st one seduced Eve
2nd fell on Newton
3rd was offered to the world half bitten by Steve Jobs “
Not many had the technical know how like him but his eye for detail with respect to how his gadgets look made him stand out. A true visionary who the world shall miss!!
Every time anyone thinks about buying a “personal computer” we would automatically think about a comp with Intel inside and windows running as our OS. Well this ideal thought process may just have taken a wild turn considering the recent events in the realms of Technology.
In the past Intel did try to venture into the mobile chip manufacturing market but fell flat in its effort. With the recent rejuvenated effort on their part in re-entering this sphere considering the world is moving slowly but surely into our phones. Adding more spice to this latest announcement was the fact Intel is linking up with Google to bring processors for their handheld devices running on Android OS. It virtually bring a close to a 30 year partnership of Intel and Microsoft ( often also called Wintel ).
This was in someway triggered by Microsoft announcing early this year that Windows 8, which would run on machines lacking x86 processor architecture used by Intel and AMD.
From my reading i would say by about first half of 2012 we might see Intel powered smartphones and tablets. Despite 80% market share of Intel in the present market it has constantly been under pressure by ARM (who produce low power consuming chips which are more suitable for phones), who apparently happen to have a monopoly in the mobile market.
Many would say Intel vs ARM may be a David vs Goliath story but Intel is feeling the pressure and are in the path for confrontation.
With Intel + Android (Google) & Windows 8 heating up the tech sphere, customers can expect better products in the coming months.
Well with ideas like these future looks bright! 😀
Truly breath taking!
Google has once again taken a huge leap by acquiring Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion in cash. It is by far the largest investment done by Google and the speed in which it has be carried out shows how serious they are in trying to safe guard their Android OS. It would now mean they directly compete with likes of Apple and Research in Motion directly bringing a new dimension into the mobile world!
This show of intent and execution has show how Google are not just satisfied with just developing the Android mobile OS but they wish to get into the market themselves, considering it has significantly taken over the market-share. As of now through sources Motorola Mobility will act as a separate business under the arm of Google.
The 63% acquisition costing Google about $40 per share has been in the rumour mill considering Google missed out on Nortel which as we know was taken over by a consortium of players which Google claims were playing behest for Microsoft, Apple etc.
Highlighting the “openness” of the Android platform, the mobile operating system will still be available for other manufactures, Google CEO Larry Page said, “Many hardware partners have contributed to Android’s success” and is keen to “work with all of them to deliver outstanding user experiences”.
However, the deal is subject to shareholder and regulatory approval in the United States and under the European Commission which as people speculate would be routine work for Google.
The Main reason for Google to go in for such a huge investment was due to the war waging in courts across the globe involving Google, Apple and Microsoft on the patent front. Google is publicly positioning the deal not as a means to buy its way into the handset market, but as an opportunity to buy Motorola’s portfolio of patents – some 17,000 of them. To some extent this acquisition may solve the problem.
Google thou has some win-win situations arising from the deal,
With the patents issue being the main reason, Google also now has got into its treasure trove set-top box business which was under Motorola Mobility. Considering along with Cisco, Motorola Mobility happen to be the market leaders in various markets. now Google can grow upon this base to improve its foothold!
But many would suggest Google would now face questions from other manufactures about them getting into the market and fighting directly with the likes of HTC and Samsung who have invested and got Android in some sense to it’s present market share! but as of now the company has categorically stated that it intents to keep Android OS as open as it is today!
Google has not only ensured Android remains a key player in the market, But also put immense pressure on Nokia and RIM to come up with better shit!! Microsoft now must some how acquire a player who could help propel its Window Mobile OS platform and rumor has it they may just think of acquiring Nokia or RIM! Wouldn’t that be news.
All i can say is it’s a Win-Win situation for customers due to such immense competition in the market!
When I got to know of this event that was to be held in the garden city – Bangalore, I began to find info of how relevant and interesting it would be! What i found was astonishing to be frank! I immediately registered in the hope i make it through to the event to get first hand experience of being a “Hacker“.
Since I was involved in my internship at HP during all this while i really couldn’t get my ideas focused cause i was pretty sure other fellow “Hackers” would have already started the implementation side of their ideas. Finally I succumbed to the fact i just could not work out time for his awesome event out of the blue so like any first timer i was like “24hrs ill do it there only” Lol!!
On the 31st when i reached The LaLiT Ashok , I was welcomed my police personnel and security guards cause the “Biggest Insult To Karnataka” aka Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yeddyurappa happened to be there too!! But I got my way to the registration Desk from there and immediately realized how organised it just was. Simple procedures and there i had my Id card and a wrist band that said Yahoo!
On I marched to the “Kalinga” and there people already hocked to their comps, using the wifi and probably putting the finishing touches LOL! Slowly the room filled up to it brim and the Wow Factor of the event hit me there and then!
I personally didn’t expect much at the start, But the Brilliant Food, fickle Wifi and company of Seniors who where at their best giving “Gyan” about the event and work-life that they just have entered! Fun is a subdued word for the experience I just had for 2 days (silly Spamming of Facebook Walls, Twitter updates when I hadn’t started coding, Staying up till 4:30 with out sleeping, collapsing at around 6am i think on a bean bag, Playing on Xbox Kinect and fusball, Roaming aimlessly around etc) and the wealth of knowledge I acquired was priceless.
I have to say the finalists where of a different class and the “Hacks” presented where really Brilliant! Hats of to Yahoo! an YDN of hosting the yahoo OpenHack India in splendid manner. (Thanks for the Bean bag @ Anil Patel)
As my senior said “Yahoo has redefined the concept of HACKING! ” and I will have to see to that it becomes a regular event in my schedule for the coming years cause “HACKING” is a great thing! \m/
